Under the mandate, Protean will set up dedicated infrastructure and provide end-to-end managed services for Aadhaar enrolment, demographic/biometric updates, and other walk-in citizen services

Protean eGov Technologies Ltd. (formerly NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Ltd.) has been awarded a landmark contract to establish and operate Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs) across 188 districts in the country, by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the statutory authority for Aadhaar, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This work order is valued at approx. ₹1160 Cr (exclusive of taxes) and the total deal size amounting to approx. ₹1370 Cr crores (inclusive of taxes).

Under this mandate, Protean will set up dedicated infrastructure and provide end-to-end managed services for Aadhaar enrolment, demographic/biometric updates, and other walk-in citizen services. This project covers manpower, infrastructure, and hardware deployment, reinforcing Protean’s pivotal role in scaling India’s digital identity ecosystem.

“This mandate marks a defining chapter in Protean’s journey of nation-building through population-scale Digital Public Infrastructure.”

– Suresh Sethi, MD & CEO, Protean eGov Technologies

Aadhaar today serves over 140 crore Indian citizens, more than the combined population of North America and Europe, making it the world’s largest and most trusted biometrically enabled identity platform. The scale of demand for Aadhaar-related services continues to grow, driven by new births, mandated biometric updates at the ages of 5 and 15 years, demographic corrections, and pending enrolments.

Suresh Sethi, MD & CEO, Protean eGov Technologies, said,  “This mandate marks a defining chapter in Protean’s journey of nation-building through population-scale Digital Public Infrastructure. It is a privilege and a responsibility to be entrusted with scaling Aadhaar, one of India’s most vital identity platforms. With this mandate, Protean becomes the only organisation to manage and scale both Aadhaar and PAN—two foundational IDs that anchor our digital nation. These aren’t just documents; they are enablers of dignity, access, and opportunity for every Indian. We are grateful to UIDAI, MeitY, and the Government of India for their trust, and remain steadfast in our mission to take secure and inclusive identity services to the last mile, be it a remote village, a small town, or a bustling city, so that every citizen can truly participate in India’s digital growth story.”

For close to 30 years, Protean has been shaping the backbone of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure. From Tax Identity (PAN cards) and Pension Infrastructure to ONDC to eKYC and now Aadhaar, the company has built rails that touch every Indian household. This new mandate is another step in contributing to the Government of India’s vision of creating a digital India that is secure, inclusive, and citizen-first.
