Lack of industry standards are key barriers for cloud adoption; Survey Report

Instasafe Technologies and Cloud Security Alliance jointly released a survey report on “State of Cloud Adoption and Security in India” conducted with over 200+ CIOs in India.

Instasafe Technologies and Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) have jointly released the results of a joint survey – “State of Cloud Adoption & Security in India”. The survey was released at the 4th CSA APAC Congress in Bangalore by Aloysius Cheang, EVP & MD – CSA APAC & Sandip Kumar Panda, CEO – Instasafe.

While moving to the cloud is an infrastructure imperative that most organisations in India are actively pursuing, security aspects of moving their applications and data to a cloud provider are the key factors affecting the widespread adoption of cloud. The benefits for enterprises moving to the cloud are clear: greater business agility, data availability, collaboration, and cost savings and these are being actively weighed against the risks of security breach and data loss.

Speaking at the launch, Sandip Kumar Panda, CEO – InstaSafe said, “While cloud adoption in India is on the rise, security concerns still dominate a lot of discussions about moving to the cloud. The objective of conducting this survey, in conjunction with CSA, was to understand the Indian CIO’s mindset, the current adoption status, unearth gaps in widespread adoption and work with the industry to help assuage fear of adopting the cloud. It would be imperative for Indian CIO’s to read the report to understand where they are on the adoption cycle and work with their vendors in asking the right questions.”

“The State of Cloud Adoption and Security in 2016: India survey was a part of our State of Cloud Adoption and Security in APAC initiative. In the state of cloud adoption and security in APAC initiative, the Cloud Security Alliance aims to provide insights in cloud adoption in different APAC countries.” said Aloysius Cheang, Executive Vice President, Asia Pacific of the Cloud Security Alliance.

Some key interesting findings of the survey are:

  • Cloud adoption in India has been on a steady increase with 62% of respondents saying that they are already using cloud services with almost 66% having been on cloud for less than 2 years.
  • SaaS is the most common form of cloud adoption, with 88.3% respondents having adopted it; followed by 55% using cloud for IaaS offerings.
  • Lack of industry standards and perceived risk of data loss and security breach are the key barriers for cloud adoption, according to Indian CIOs.
  • Indian organizations are extremely concerned with security. Organizations are most worried about their data on the cloud. Data breach (79.2%) and data loss (72.7%) are the core concerns of organizations from a cloud security perspective.

“We would like to thank Instasafe for their ongoing support and contributions to this survey, and to our broader efforts to understand and educate the market on cloud adoption in the APAC region,” said Cheang.
