IBM, National Council for Science & Technology host STEM Summit

IBM along with National Council for Science and Technology Communication are hosting a three-day STEM (science, technology engineering, and mathematics) Summit and hands-on teacher training program, bringing together stakeholders from government and non-government segments, apex Science organizations and educators in the fields of STEM. IBM has developed a free online resource for teachers that includes high-quality STEM lesson plans with teaching resources and support that will help them spark students’ interest in STEM disciplines.

The national summit will facilitate discussions on ways to strengthen STEM education by focusing on preparing teachers and providing students with hands-on experiential learning. This summit is designed to enable effective partnerships with government and non-government organizations, empowering teachers with project-based STEM lessons and engaging teaching strategies that help inspire students to pursue careers in STEM. Michaela Labriole, Manager of Special Projects at the New York Hall of Science, a global partner for Teachers TryScience, will conduct in-depth training for teachers on the digital resource, including how to adapt these lessons and build interactive activities for their classrooms.

Teachers TryScience is a great way to introduce teachers to classroom innovations that increase student interest and achievement in STEM disciplines,” said Mamtha Sharma, Head – Corporate Citizenship & Corporate Affairs, IBM India Private Limited.

The council through its various initiatives like the National Children Science Congress, National Teachers Science Congress, training and field programmes for Science Communication aims to achieve its objectives. Other governmental and non-governmental organizations with teaching, research mandate, T.V. Channels, FM Radios, Community Radios and agencies like IBM, INTEL, CII etc. with the similar objectives of spreading scientific temper among people are our important partners, said, Dr. B.P.Singh, Scientist G & Head, National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology.”
