VMware to help banks better handle large transaction volumes

VMware has extended its offerings to include EdgeVerve Systems, the product subsidiary of Infosys, for the availability of the Finacle Core Banking solution on VMware virtualized infrastructure. This new offering will enable global banks to take advantage of the proven, industry leading Finacle solution suite with the agility, availability, security and cost efficiencies that a VMware virtualized environment offers.

The offering will enable banks of all sizes to run enterprise-class banking applications without major capital investment and with greater flexibility and ease. Banks can choose to leverage the entire banking platform as a managed service or can use specific services, such as Core Banking and Payments. Client banks will always have the latest Finacle capabilities available-on-demand to keep pace with changing consumer expectations.

This solution will also help banks globally mitigate risks and meet the most demanding Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with VMware’s availability and performance features. These include High Availability (of the cloud infrastructure), Fault Tolerance (offering continuous availability of applications), vMotion (eliminating downtime), Network IO Control, Storage IO Control (ensuring optimum performance) and Disaster Recovery.

In a related development, the solution was subject to a benchmarking test on VMware virtualized infrastructure. The results reported over 1,670 transactions per second and passed 24 million transactions over a 4 hour period, with an average page refresh time of 0.443 seconds. This is highly comparable to a non-virtualized environment. The test results also returned and clearly demonstrates Finacle’s ability to help banks manage large transaction volumes on VMware’s virtualized infrastructure with no impact on performance.

“VMware and EdgeVerve are helping guide customers to a new era of IT by combining the architecture, technology and services that are making the software-defined enterprise a reality,” said Arun Parameswaran, Managing director, VMware India. “With these benchmarking results, we’re confident that many global banks will benefit from the efficiency and agility that VMware’s cloud infrastructure offers Finacle.”

Michael Reh, Executive Vice President and CEO (designate), EdgeVerve commented, “At Finacle, we have worked with our partners to consistently benchmark Finacle at the highest operational efficiency levels. We are now pleased that VMware will offer Finacle with the same assured high performance metrics. Finacle on VMware’s leading virtualized server platform will enable banks to reduce in-house IT spend on infrastructure, without compromising on performance, scalability or security.”
