MAIT Holds Round Table with DeiTY

MAIT organized an industry round table with JS Deepak , the new Secretary, Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeiTY). This was the first exclusive interaction of the Secretary with the hardware industry association.

The interaction was aimed to push manufacturing in the ICT hardware sector and speedy implementation of Digital India. Debjani Ghosh, President, MAIT, presented the industry outlook and shared the recommendations to boost ICT sector. She reiterated MAIT’s contribution over the last several years on various fronts including ICT manufacturing, Standards & Compliance, SME Development in Hardware, Digital India Action Group. She also emphasized one of MAIT’s focus, increasing of domestic IT consumption with an eye on rural India.

Some of the immediate issues that were highlighted during the roundtable included enabling duty differentials, MEIS- Production subsidy, incentivizing the purchase of PCs, better ability to compete with World-Scale and capability of suppliers, Infrastructure maturity, Reduction in excise duty for DTs and NBs, Adequate export incentives, SOP for BIS, and ERV.

J S Deepak, Secretary, Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeiTY), thanked MAIT for organizing the roundtable and appreciated the good work which it is doing for the growth of the ICT industry. He discussed various issues highlighted by MAIT leadership team and assured to push for inclusion in the next budget. He sought MAIT’s support on furthering Digital India, Make in India, Electronics India, and Design in India initiatives, particularly, from the point of view of job creation.

The roundtable was attended by Managing Directors, CEOs and Business Heads of MAIT member companies.
